Day School Classes at
West Side Tech

The new Day School classes last from three to ten days. There is no charge for these courses and parking is free. The classes are from 9:00 am to 12 noon. Take this opportunity to update your skills. Registration is available by phone, call the Registrar at 708-389-1340-#208.

There are five different Day school classes. Each class is offered twice this spring.

• Day Arc Flash Protection
  

  NFPA 70E is the standard that covers electrical safety in the workplace and protects electrical workers from hazards such as electrical shock, arc blasts and explosions initiated by electricity.

  3 day class, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
  Session 1: January 11, 12, 13
  Session 2: February 8, 9, 10
  
  
  
• Day Blueprint Review
  

  This review class will be a great opportunity for the journeyperson to enhance their skills in commercial printreading and the Chicago electrical code. The class discussion and exercises will be based on a Chicago public school. Topics will include: riser diagrams, panel schedules, distribution schedules, lighting fixture schedules, lighting plans, and power plans.

  Session 1: January 11th to January 22nd

• Day City of Chicago Approved Scaffold Training
  (Scaffold Training is held at the Alsip location.)
  
  The purpose of this course of instruction is to provide scaffold erectors and users with the regulations, safety guidelines and procedures needed to recognize and eliminate hazards in the field. Satisfactory achievement of the course objectives will assist you in satisfying the OSHA training requirements as defined in 29 CFR 1926.454.
  
  5 day class, Monday thru Friday
  Session 1: January 11th to January 15th
  Session 2: February 8th to February 12th
  Note: Scaffolding Class is at the Alsip Campus.
  
  
• Day Code Review
  

  Critical articles from the Chicago Electrical Code will be addressed and discussed to further the electrical code education of the journeyperson. Articles 90-490 which is the heart and soul of the electrical code book will be explained with special attention given to the branch circuit, service, grounding, conduit fill and wiring methods requirements.

• Day Introduction to Renewable Energy
  

  This introductory class for renewable energy will target the solar photovoltaic (PV) sector of renewable energy. The student will learn the basic types, concepts, components and language of PV.  Basic system identification, sizing, grounding and OCPD will be discussed as well.

  5 day class, Monday thru Friday
  Session 1: January 25th to January 29th
  Session 2: March 1st to March 5th
